3D REPRESENTATIONS OF CULTURAL PRACTICES: An Exploratory Gamification of the OvaHerero traditional customs

Description

Namibia experiences a fading away of traditional cultural practices. To some extent, this can be attributed to the effect of urban migration. Closely linked to this migration is the introduction and effect of formal education. Formal education, given its western origin, is far removed from Namibian cultural practices. Its adverse impact on the societal cultural roots is glaringly apparent in the highly volatile youth sector of our society. Technological advancement has also introduced digitalization which in turn has completely changed the face of entertainment. Digital gaming now tops the entertainment chart. This research analyses ways in which digital gaming application in 3D model will effectively address these discrepancies. A 3D gaming prototype will be used in the OvaHerero community to identify and evaluate how it can help to prevent the extinction of cultural practices.
